Title of Assignment: Communication Plan

Name: Katy Wood Date: November 30, 2011

q Competency 007- The teacher understands and applies principles and strategies for communicating effectively in varied teaching and learning contexts.

Justification Statement:

I wrote this communication plan on November 30, 2011. It was written in regards to a high school theatre classroom. This will be the general communication plan I will follow during my teaching career. I feel that by creating a plan in regards to communication, I will be much more prepared to handle different scenarios, especially with parents as well as students in varied teaching and learning contexts.

Communication Plan

Parents:

We would communicate through e-mail, phone calls, and our website. On the website, there would be information regarding conference periods, phone numbers parents could call to reach us, as well as e-mail addresses. We would also send home a handout regarding the various ways the parents can contact us, especially the website, and there would also be an information sheet for the parents to fill out so we, as teachers, can contact them regarding their child’s performance.

Students:

We would limit our communication with the students to e-mail and face-to-face interaction. We don’t want to give out our personal phone number to the students, unless it is an emergency or special situation. We would also post assignments to our website for the students to access if they were absent or lost their paperwork, as well as the lesson’s PowerPoint from that week or month.

Principals:

The main way we would communicate with the principals would be through e-mail, especially during the day. If there is a urgent situation that needs attention, we would call them on the phone. We would talk to them face-to-face during staff meetings or one-on-one meetings.

Co-workers:

We would attempt to coordinate lesson plans, especially for a history and English class. However, it could still be easily relatable to any other subject area. Face-to-face interaction with coworkers is probably the best form of communication, especially during conference periods. E-mail would also be used on a regular basis for communicating with other teachers. Phone calls would be used when necessary.

Community:

For theatre events, flyers work great for advertising upcoming events, such as plays or competitions. These could be posted all over the community at the various businesses. For club fundraising events, the same process could be used as well. Even an advertisement in a newspaper would work too.
